MEChA de UCSD Presents Las Raices del Cambio/ The Roots of Change
What is MEChA de UCSD's High School Conference all about?
M.E.Ch.A. (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlan) de UC San Diego would like to invite you to our 28th Annual High School Conference!
This year's high school conference will be on April 7, 2018. Our theme this year is Las Raices del Cambio (The Roots of Change) and our goal is to help these students celebrate their hidden strengths and empower them into creating change in their communities and themselves through a pursuit of higher education and knowledge. The conference is put on by students, for students. As a community, it is our duty to help inform and encourage high school students to attend institutions of higher education. The conference is an opportunity to learn about higher education, social justice, and cultural empowerment. The conference will be filled with inspirational speakers, cultural entertainment and various workshops on topics such as social issues, culture, college application process, financial aid and many more. Throughout the conference students will get to meet, learn, and grow with college students from similar communities, cultures, and backgrounds, while getting to experience a college campus! All high school students are welcome; however, we will mainly be addressing students of color who do not usually see their lives taking the path of education. Our main goal is to have students take with them a sense of empowerment and remove any self-doubt they may have about their own abilities. In order for students to attend the conference, they must register. Only registered students will be able to attend the conference. Please register as soon as possible! Students from the San Diego County will be provided with transportation. There will be buses placed in different locations around San Diego. If students are not from the San Diego county, we are working hard everyday to secure funding for your transport. Please stay in contact and visit this site regularly in order to keep up to date. Parents are also more than welcome to come! Included is a parent conference, with speakers and workshops addressing financial aid, accessibility of higher education, and the ways to support their children in order to reach and graduate from higher education! Parking is free at UC San Diego the day of! All parents interested should email: [email protected] IMPORTANT: Students who are going to participate must have their parent/guardian sign a parent-consent form and a liability waiver. |
